  • Warriors Take Bite Out of Coyote Perfection

    4-Feb-10  Varsity

    Westlake 69

    Calabasas 63

One thing was evident as the Coyotes of Calabasas took the floor in Thursday night’s contest that the Warriors were not about to go peacefully to the unbeaten challengers.  In a game that Westlake took charge from the get go, Westlake paced Calabasas throughout the first period pulling even by halftime.  In typical Warrior style, the 3rd period was played with a vengeance that saw Westlake put up 26 points highlighted by a three point buzzer beater from the scorer’s desk by JJ Koss.  With perfection in the balance, Calabasas trimmed the double digit deficit to under 10 in the last period but the Warriors remained calm amidst the battle and even with Mark Friedman and Kirk Jones fouling out as the 4th quarter wound down the Warriors held firm as the bench, once again, stepped up to hold the Coyote charge.   Devon Silber led the Warrior offence with 19 including 2 threes while Joe Detweiler put down 16 with 2 threes of his own.  The inside game was controlled by Mark Friedman and Kirk Jones with 13 rebounds and 3 blocks between them.  Westlake remains solidly in 3rd place, 16-9 overall 8-4 in league and faces off against Simi next week.

  • Westlake Varsity Blue and Orange Rolls the Green Hole 27-Jan-10

Warrior blue rolls out and hands the Lancers their second league loss in Wednesday’s contest. A defensive battle for three periods where 1 point separated the rivals, but a 20 point surge in the fourth period capped by back to back 3s by Joe Detweiler in the closing minutes was the dagger in the “Green Hole”.   A balanced scoring attack from the Westlake starting team was the difference, led by Mark Friedman with 14, Devon Silber putting down 13 with 2-3 pointers, and Joe Detweiler with 10 followed closely by Kirk Jones with 7 and JJ Koss with 6.  On the defensive side, 22 rebounds and 8 blocks led by Kirk Jones and Mark Friedman kept the Lancers at bay.  Bench support added 9 points behind John Stuart, Brennan Walker and Angelo Jacobs. The Warriors are now 14-8 overall, 6-3 in league and firmly in 3rd place behind Calabasas and Thousand Oaks.  The Warriors face off against the Panthers of Newbury Park on Friday.

    11-Jan-08

    Westlake 40

    Calabasas 58

Aggressive inside defense for the Coyotes kept the Warriors off balance in Monday’s contest where Calabasas would out pace Westlake 58-40.  A slow start for the Warriors found them in a 14 point hole from which they would not come back although the match was fairly even for the last three periods.  Open looks were few and far between and points had to come by.  Angelo Jacobs would lead the Warriors off the bench with 11 and the starters would score only 18 collectively.  The Warriors move to 3-2 in league and face the Pioneers of Simi on Wednesday
